SAKAI America Inc. has officially begun shipping the SV544-1 Series vibratory single drum soil compactor to its dealer network. As the latest update to the best-selling 84-in. SV544 line, the SV544-1 introduces targeted powertrain improvements designed to enhance overall performance and efficiency on the job site.
The primary update to the SV544-1 is the integration of the Cummins F3.8 Performance Series engine, which now delivers 148 hp (110 kW). This engine provides a 14 percent increase in peak horsepower over the previous 130 hp model at the same rpm. Operators also will experience a 23 percent increase in peak torque, rising from 360 lb.-ft. to 443 lb.-ft., delivered 100 rpm sooner for improved responsiveness under load. Alongside this power increase, the SV544-1 offers improved fuel efficiency by an estimated 8 percent and features an ECO mode for further savings. The engine also operates with reduced noise levels and provides an 8.2 percent reduction in CO2 emissions by utilizing the proven Cummins Single Module, according to the company.
"The SV544 has long been our best-selling model, known for its proven SAKAI reliability, ease-of-use, and durability," said Brad Belvin, manager of sales and marketing of SAKAI America. "With the SV544-1, we are improving that legacy by giving contractors more usable power, while simultaneously cutting fuel costs. It's a practical update designed to support job site efficiency."
To support these mechanical upgrades, SAKAI engineers also have implemented a simplified ECM harness for improved machine integration as well as other packaging changes. The SV544-1 otherwise retains the familiar features operators rely on, including straightforward analog controls that eliminate the need for failure-prone touch screens or multi-function panels. The machine continues to come standard with user-selectable traction control, a heavy-duty center hitch and long-life isolators engineered to last up to 5,000 hours, according to the company.

The SAKAI SV544-1 Series is currently shipping to authorized SAKAI dealers. The model line features operating weights starting from 24,405 lbs. and offers up to 63 percent (32 degrees) gradeability. Every unit is backed by SAKAI's 3-year / 3,000-hour warranty.
