Sakai America, now firmly entrenched in the North American construction industry, is once again raising the bar in the compaction market, following the theme they have set over the last several ConExpo seasons, according to the company.
In 1999, the company introduced the world’s first line of 4000 vpm rollers, increasing the speed of the paving train while maintaining impacts per foot.
In 2002, Sakai brought the world’s first track-driven vibratory soil compactor, climbing steep slopes like never before seen in compaction, according to the company. Now, the CV550 has been replaced by the SV510ST super traction, which has greater ability to climb steep inclines in either direction, but using smooth tires removing the maintenance burdens and indentations found in a track-driven machine.
In 2005, The GW750 found its way to the show as the world’s first vibratory pneumatic tire roller, combining the benefits of a pneumatic roller with those of a vibratory allowing contractors greater flexibility as well as a powerful tool to meet tough specs, according to the company.
In 2008, Sakai’s compaction information system was unveiled, raising the bar against competitors and advancing the way the industry looked at CIS.
In 2011, the company introduced many new rollers and an advanced version of CIS.
So what’s in store for ConExpo 2014 in Vegas? At this year’s show, Sakai will have the 79 in. (200.7 cm) oscillating rollers capable of oscillation or vibration in both drums on display. The SW850ND joins the SW770ND 67 in. (170.2 cm) and SW652ND 58 in. (147.3 cm), which also feature oscillation and vibration in both drums for faster, more economical compaction of a wide range of mix designs and lift thicknesses.
In addition the SV540 — Sakai’s new 84 in. (213.4 cm) interim tier IV soil rollers, complete with a redesigned, spacious new cab; automatic traction control to enable slope work in forward and reverse; and Sakai’s new ECO mode, will be on display. The machine allows contractors powerful compactive force while saving up to 20 percent in fuel costs. The SV540 will be accompanied by Sakai’s SV412 — the new 67 in. interim tier IV soil roller, featuring manual traction control for climbing steep slopes in reverse, high centrifugal force and the same durable, heavy-duty center hitch Sakai is known for. Each of these models will be available with either smooth (D) or padfoot (T) drum, with shell kits available for either style (DF and TF, respectively). A strike-off blade will be available as well for the padfoot drum model (TB) and padfoot with shell-kit models (FB).
A wide range of other new offerings from Sakai will be on display including the entire light equipment line with Sakai’s new trench roller, the SA33L2. The heavy-duty trench roller boasts a whopping 24.6 horsepower engine.
