Tidewater Equipment Company, with locations in Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and North Florida, has rejoined Precision Husky and will be marketing the ProGrind line of equipment, along with whole tree chippers and flail debarkers in all its stores. Bob Smith, chairman and CEO of Precision, noted that Tidewater was its dealer for Husky loaders only in the 1980’s. Bob and his son, Scott Smith, president of Precision Husky, stated that, “We welcome them back with open arms.” Smith further stated that Tidewater did a superb job for them in the beginning and look forward to putting this relationship back together.

The complete Precision Husky line of equipment includes 10 models of tub grinders and six models of horizontal grinders. These units are available with engines from 100 to 1,100 hp (74.5 to 820 kW). The company manufactures stationary chippers from the smallest to the largest and from 50 to 3,500 hp (37 to 2,609 kW), along with four major sizes of mobile whole tree chippers.

Along with its line of ProGrind tub and horizontal grinders, Precision also manufactures three distinct models of flail debarkers — Model 2300 two-flail unit designed primarily for short wood, Model 2300-C three-flail unit combination with chipper mounted on the same frame designed for tree-length wood with bark content of 1 to 2 percent, and Model 2300-4 four-flail unit. The four-flail units are designed primarily for the eucalyptus plantations that now stretch literally around the world. They are capable of debarking multiple stems at 175 ft. per minute (53 mpm) with an average bark content of three-tenths of 1 percent.

Precision Husky Corporation, Leeds, Ala., was started in 1964 and has for nearly 45 years designed and manufactured equipment for chip mills, sawmills, wood yards, log loading and in-woods debarking/chipping and wood waste grinding. The company currently provides employment for more than 100 workers in its 165,000 sq. ft. headquarters in Leeds, and its second facility 35,000 sq. ft. in Lynn, Ala.

Tidewater operates full service branches in Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and North Florida. Since 1947 Tidewater has provided equipment, parts, and services for loggers, contractors, mills, and municipalities throughout the Southeast. Gil Morgan, president of Tidewater said in the announcement, “The Tidewater stores have always offered top-of-the-line equipment and we believe the quality of Precision’s equipment speaks for itself.”
