Trimble SketchUp Pro Civil Contractor Connects 3D Modeling with Field Layout

Trimble has launched the SketchUp Pro Civil Contractor, a connected software solution, that combines the SketchUp 3D modeling software with the power of the Trimble Siteworks positioning system.

Trimble announced the launch of Trimble SketchUp Pro Civil Contractor.

The new connected software solution combines the simplicity of SketchUp 3D modeling software with the power of the Trimble Siteworks positioning system for accurate site layout and quality control, giving civil contractors an easier way to move from design to field execution.

Designed for contractors performing earthwork, grading and utility construction, SketchUp Pro Civil Contractor gives users an intuitive way to create 3D earthwork models in Trimble SketchUp and bring them into Trimble Siteworks and the Trimble Earthworks grade control platform.

This connected 3D-to-field workflow carries a single digital model from design through layout, construction and verification, reducing rework and improving accuracy, according to Trimble.

"Generating field-ready models in SketchUp makes it easier for contractors to move from design to machine guidance without the complexity of traditional 3D CAD software," said Elwyn McLachlan, vice president of civil construction product and strategy of Trimble. "By streamlining data exchange between design, surveying and earthmoving, SketchUp Pro Civil Contractor helps contractors minimize downtime and get to work faster."

SketchUp Pro Civil Contractor bridges the gap between a 3D model and raw terrain, enabling contractors to:

Model with topography: Quickly and easily generate accurate 3D terrain for earth movement modeling, volume calculations and site logistics.

Bring accuracy to site operations: Transfer 3D model data and geolocated points into Trimble Siteworks to guide control-point stakeout and excavation layout.

Dig with confidence: Convert SketchUp surfaces into high-fidelity designs for Trimble Earthworks on excavators.

Keep data consistent: Connected data across the office, field and machines reduces manual handoffs and helps ensure crews are working from accurate design information.
