Two Florida construction workers were killed on the job Aug. 30.

The workers were on the construction site of an Orlando hotel at around 4:15 in the morning, when the scaffolding they were working on between the sixth and seventh floors collapsed. The workers died on the scene, ABC News reported.

Authorities said the scaffolding fell “for reasons unknown.”

At the time of the incident, about 12 workers were on the site for a concrete pour, with four on the scaffolding. Of the two surviving workers on the scaffolding, one was able to get to safety before he fell, while the other hung onto the scaffolding before climbing to safety. Although he suffered minor injuries, he refused to go to the hospital, ABC News reported.

The incident occurred near Disney property, according to Orange County Fire Rescue spokesman Mike Jachles said.

“They were on the scaffolding, and for reasons unknown at this time, that support structure gave way, sending two workers plummeting to the ground below,” said Jachles to The Associated Press.

The project, owned and developed by DCS Investment Holdings, is the $282 million, 16-story JW Marriott Orlando Bonnet Creek Resort, The Associated Press reported. DCS Investment Holdings is owned by Dwight C. Schar, co-owner of the Washington Redskins.

OSHA and the Orange County Sheriff's Office has plans to investigate the incident.
