The Utility & Transportation Contractors Association of New Jersey (UTCA) held its 50th annual convention and trade show Oct. 1 through Oct. 4 at the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City, N.J.

On Friday, Oct. 2, equipment dealers and construction services companies met with Garden State contractors (and contractors from neighboring states) during the trade show in the Borgata. The Annual Awards Luncheon began at noon, where the Larry Gardner Memorial Award was presented to Linda Gardner of Brent Material Company. Each year, this award is given to a UTCA member who has demonstrated outstanding service to the association.

The Awards Luncheon’s keynote speaker, sponsored by Penn-Jersey Machinery, was Tim McCarver. A catcher during his playing years between 1959 and 1980, McCarver played for the St. Louis Cardinals, Philadelphia Phillies, Montreal Expos and the Boston Red Sox. In his early career with Cardinals, he was the favorite catcher of Hall of Famer Bob Gibson.

Today, many baseball fans know McCarver as a long-time broadcaster/color commentator and is currently an announcer for the St. Louis Cardinals.
