Bergkamp Inc., based in Salina, Kan., is expanding its office and manufacturing facilities. Bergkamp has been manufacturing pavement maintenance equipment for more than 25 years. It offers a full line of truck-mounted, trailer-mounted and continuous slurry seal/microsurfacing pavers and equipment, as well as truck- and trailer-mounted pothole patching equipment.

Bergkamp currently has 42,400 sq. ft. of office and manufacturing space, which it expects to increase by 75 to 100 percent — with a total investment of more than $2 million.

“The office expansion will provide room for additional support, parts, engineering and sales personnel, while the new manufacturing space will help us meet the rising demand for all of our products,” said Scott Bergkamp, president.

Bergkamp’s growth is being driven by the increasing importance of preventative maintenance to preserve today’s roads.

“With the rise in fuel and material costs and the limited funding available, preventative maintenance has become a more viable option for many local, state and federal governments,” said Bergkamp.

According to the International Slurry Surfacing Association (ISSA), preventative maintenance provides considerable savings on road rehabilitation costs. It minimizes deterioration and maintenance needs of roads by protecting the sub-surface from the effects of aging and environmental conditions.

“Not only have we seen an increase in demand for our slurry seal/microsurfacing pavers, but our pothole patching business has also significantly increased,” said Bergkamp.

Bergkamp’s FP5 pothole patcher reduces material waste. It is electric-heated and keeps material pliable for a long time — even overnight, according to the manufacturer.
