Leroy Bohnsack and his son, Mike, owners of Bohnsack & Hennen Excavating, have done excavating and finish-grading work in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area.

“My dad runs the company and has been in the excavating business for forty years in Prior Lake, Minn.,” Mike, owner and job superintendent, said.

Beside Leroy and Mike, the company employs Jason Bolly, Justin Schumer, Justin Schultz and Tom Mesenbernik.

“It’s a family business,” Mike said.

Bohnsack & Hennen Excavating primarily works on residential construction projects.

The company recently completed one of its largest earthmoving projects in Savage, Minn., using an array of Bobcat skid steers, dozers and track excavators.

“We just finished our largest site-grading job at Oak Ponds Residential Housing in Savage,” Mike said. “We came and worked on the job all summer.”

Mike said his crew moved 30,000 cu. yd. (22,900 cu m) of dirt and did “a lot of compaction.”

To accomplish this feat, Bohnsack & Hennen used a Caterpillar 953 crawler loader, a Komatsu 200LC excavator and a Caterpillar 435 motorscraper.

The $50,000 site grading project at Oak Ponds Residential Housing was completed in October 2007.

Mike said that a Bobcat T250 was used for the final cleanup work and for the project’s final touch-ups.

In addition to the T250, Bohnsack & Hennen Excavating used two Bobcat 763 skid steer loaders.

Mike said Bohnsack & Hennen Excavating bought the Bobcat skid steers from Lano Equipment because of the company’s dedication to service.

“Lano Equipment treats us the right way,” Mike said. “We deal with them all the time because they provide great service, they have good prices on equipment and they are a good dealer if you have something broken.”

He added that Lano Equipment “is very timely with repair work.”

Lano Equipment has three locations in Minnesota — Anoka, Shakopee and Loretto.
