The new, compact BOMAG BW 100 AD e-5 electric tandem roller introduces sustainable, low-noise and zero-emissions operation to the 2.5-ton class commercial roller market.

With its 39.4-in. rolling width, this powerful all-arounder makes short work of parking lot, driveway, asphalt repair and soil compaction work. Impressively quiet, the new BOMAG roller is perfect for compacting in noise-sensitive areas such as nighttime jobs, inner city work and compacting around hospitals, the manufacturer said.

The new BW 100 AD e-5 features a low-voltage, 48V system with long-lasting 25 kWh Li-Ion batteries. The system requires no special safety precautions for maintenance, and the batteries offer plenty of capacity for a typical day's work before recharging.

With its recuperative system, valuable energy is recovered during braking, converting mechanical energy back into electrical. The roller offers flexible plug and charging options to meet the customer's needs.

The new tandem roller's efficient e-PERFORMANCE system is equipped with two electric motors — one dedicated to travel and the other for steering and vibration. A 26.8-hp (19,7 kW) electric motor propels the front and rear driven drums at working speeds of 0-3.1 mph and travel speeds reaching 6.2 mph.

When traveling, the roller only uses one motor to conserve energy consumption. The roller's unique ECO function helps to further save battery power.

Affording enhanced visibility to the drum and drum edge, the roller's isolated platform reduces vibration feedback to the operator to improve comfort throughout the shift. With no warm-up necessary, the roller is quickly ready for work at the push of the ignition button, and its uncomplicated design allows operators of all experience levels to quickly pick up roller control, according to the manufacturer.

A digital 5-in. color display gives operators a quick glance of critical operating parameters, including speed, energy output, asphalt temperature, compaction progress, operating hours, battery charging capacity, duration and power. Available BOMAG TELEMATIC allows fleet managers to monitor roller location plus operating data from anywhere, at any time.

Similar to the diesel-powered BW 100 AD-5, the electric BW 100 AD e-5 flexibly allows for individual vibration control to both drums, and vibration actuation is conveniently controlled through the soft-response travel lever. Tailoring compaction output to the job, the roller offers two vibration frequencies of 3,900 and 3,360 vpm (64 and 54 Hz) with a single amplitude of 0.20 in (0,50 mm), generating 7,194 and 5,395 lb. (32 and 24 kN) centrifugal force. Its intelligent vibration control (IVC) helps operators to know when compaction has been optimized to save on passes.

Featuring a pressurized water spray system with 54.2-gal. tank, the scraper bars are wind-protected to ensure uniform drum coverage in adverse weather conditions. Two scraper bars on each drum help to prevent material pick-up in both travel directions.
