The “Waste not, want not” adage can be used to describe the philosophy of a company that recycles construction debris. One such company is Belford, NJ-based, Brick Wall Corporation, one of the family-owned Hesse companies, of Belford.

Last year, Brick Wall purchased a Metso LT1213S mobile crusher from Binder Machinery, of South Plainfield, NJ, to perform on-site crushing and recycling of asphalt and concrete debris.

The Metso LT1213S is a full process plant that crushes feed material in an NP1213M impact crusher. After crushing, the material is screened with the inclined screen from where the oversized material is returned to the crusher by the return conveyor.

In addition to this closed-circuit crushing process, the LT1213S also can be utilized in an open circuit process to make the two different end product sizes.

“I like the Metso LT1213S because it is a closed-circuit machine that accepts larger pieces than many of the other portable crushers on the market,” said Larry Hesse, Brick Wall Corporation’s vice president of Operations.

“We crush asphalt and concrete at the construction sites. The end product is used for road subbase,” he said.

From the time Binder Machinery was founded in 1957, it has supplied the Hesse companies with machinery.

“We have been doing business with Binder since 1957 and have found them to be reliable and honest as well as having a good product,” said Hesse. “They support their products and we have always gotten help when we needed it. Harry Rice is a great representative and has been there for us.”

The Hesse family of companies solely originated as the Charles J. Hesse Co, which was founded in 1908 as a dirt/fill trucking operation. The company was incorporated in 1935 as Charles J. Hesse Inc. In 1958, the Brick Wall Corporation was founded as a sand and gravel operation, and in 1962, C.J. Hesse Inc. was formed as a heavy-highway and paving company. CEG Staff
