The expansion of Coble Trench Safety Inc. (CTS) has gone just according to plan.

President Tom Coble had set a goal of opening one new branch location each year when he founded the company in 2002.

This year’s expansion has taken the company to Manassas, Va., and the booming northern Virginia and Washington, D.C., markets.

CTS, based in Greensboro, N.C., rents and sells trench- and traffic-safety equipment and offers OSHA-compliant training classes.

“We are very excited about our new Washington, D.C., operation,” Coble said. “The Manassas branch is our third expansion outside the state of North Carolina, and will be the sixth fully-staffed operation of Coble Trench Safety in the United States.”

Chris Allen, who has more than five years of experience in trench and traffic safety, will manage the branch.

“His successful track record and specific industry experience will truly be an asset to Coble Trench Safety,” Coble said.

The facility has a 4,000-sq.-ft. shop and 5,000-sq.-ft. reserved for office space and training areas.

But even with the opening of this branch, Coble expects to open one or two other branches in the second half of 2007. He did not specify their possible locations for strategic reasons.

Allen, who has been working in the new region for a year, will oversee five or six people when the branch is fully staffed.

The trick to a successful expansion is finding the right people, Coble said. As the company extends its reach farther from its headquarters, Coble explained that he needs to rely on his employees.

“The main value of what we bring to the marketplace is our knowledge,” he said.

In addition to its ongoing geographic expansion, Coble Trench Safety has relocated its corporate headquarters and repair/rebuild shop to Greensboro, N.C. The offices will reside on the same campus as its Greensboro branch, which will allow Coble Trench Safety to serve its customers more efficiently. The new address for the campus will be 3137 Cedar Park Road.
