Two amendments related to the design-build agreement for the Roanoke Convention Center and Hotel were approved during recent City Council meetings, paving the way for construction, communityimpact.com reported.
During the June 9, 2026, meeting, the Roanoke Convention Center Hotel Local Development Corp. and council members approved an amendment for the project, allowing general contractor Brasfield & Gorrie of Dallas to proceed with the full $97.5 million build-out.
Citing city documents, communityimpact.com said the total guaranteed maximum price for the development at 600 S. Oak St. is $103.7 million.
At a prior meeting, the two boards approved an amendment that was an early work package for drawings and procurement of long-lead equipment for $1.7 million.
The changes approved on June 9 show that substantial work will be achieved within 639 days after Brasfield & Gorrie is approved to proceed. The company set a start date of Sept. 3, with a completion date of June 2, 2028, communityimpact.com reported.
The convention center is slated to cost $44.2 million, while the hotel will be $41.3 million, and the parking garage will cost $11.9 million.
A portion of of the $1.7 million included temporary site fencing, fire pump procurement, grease traps, underground piping, water feature equipment, generators and rebar.
The amendment also increased the square footage in the main kitchen, the expo kitchen, back-of-house space, updated serving counters in the boardroom/meeting room, communityimpact.com reported
Aside from approximately 200 rooms, the full-service boutique hotel will have meeting rooms, a ballroom and conference rooms. The hotel will sit on 3.27 acres and be five stories tall with a total area of 61,448 sq. ft., communityimpact.com reported
The city will own the convention center, while leasing land in Roanoke to the hotel for operations. ♣
