The 2002 Governor’s Safety Awards, co-sponsored by The Delaware Department of Labor and the Delaware Contractor’s Association (DCA), were presented at the association’s annual meeting held at the First USA Riverfront Arts Center.

The 2002 recipients were: Bancroft Construction Company Inc. and EDiS won in the General Contractor category; Tilcon Delaware and Kuhn Construction Company won in the Heavy Highway category; and Battaglia Electric Company and Triton Construction Company won in the Subcontractor category.

The Governor’s Safety Awards were established to emphasize the importance of safety in the construction industry by recognizing those companies that have consistently led the way in promoting workplace safety.

John J. McMahon Jr., executive vice president of DCA said, “The scoring and judging for this year’s awards program was extremely competitive.”

The applications were evaluated by utilizing the following six criteria: frequency rate of total recordable incidents; safety program’s documentation; policy and management support; training and orientation; work rules, administration and procedures.
