Construction Equipment Guide

Doosan Portable Power has enhanced its full range of mobile generators for global markets — United States, Canada, South America, Asia-Pacific and Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA). Each generator line is designed specifically for the market it serves, addressing the needs of construction and rental customers while also serving industrial and emergency backup customers. All generators have been designed for fuel efficiency, reduced sound levels and ease of operation with a user-friendly interface. Rugged enclosures, skids and running gear assemblies ensure mobility, while providing the most accessible service points in the market, according to the manufacturer.

North America and South America

In North America, Doosan Portable Power has upgraded three models in its 60 Hertz mobile generator portfolio to meet the Environmental Protection Agency’s current standards for mobile, off-highway, diesel-powered equipment. The new G70, G85 and G125 mobile generators join four models that were introduced earlier in 2012 to meet Tier IV interim (Tier IVi) emissions standards — G150, G190, G240 and G325.

The portfolio for North America now includes a total of 11 models ranging from 25 to 570 kVA, all of which comply with current EPA emissions regulations. All models are assembled at the Doosan Portable Power factory in Statesville, N.C.

Sound levels in all Tier IV generators have been reduced to ensure quiet operation as a result of a new design with innovative airflow management. The rugged enclosure features deep pockets to maximize airflow for better cooling and to minimize water ingression. The G150 – G325 models feature a dual-compartment design to dissipate the heat from the engine and the Tier IVi exhaust system. Electric fans cool the engine compartment while a radial fan displaces the Tier IVi exhaust system’s heat in the forward compartment. The Doosan Portable Power Tier IVi generator design is unique to the market because performance and reliability were not sacrificed — even at extreme temperatures — and all with a minimal increase to the generator footprint, according to the manufacturer.

Tier IVi generators in North America feature a full array of automotive quality engine gauges with motor-driven movements and CAN bus accuracy. Analog meters and LED status indicator lamps provide at-a-glance monitoring of the generator’s output. Tier IVi controls and displays are designed in the control panel for at-a-glance monitoring. It is now easier than ever before for operators to be informed of engine diagnostics and to monitor aftertreatment regeneration functions.

The Doosan-unique dual frequency capability is now standard on the Tier IVi portfolio to expand the versatility of the machines to power 50 Hz applications with the simple flip of a switch. Six Doosan generator models in North America ranging from 70 kVA (56 kW) through 325 kVA (260 kW) now feature dual-frequency selection options. This standard feature allows operators to select 50 Hz or 60 Hz, depending on the application.

A new option available for the mid-range mobile generators (G70, G85 and G125) is the quad voltage selection feature. The Doosan-exclusive quad voltage control allows operators to choose 120/240V-1Ø, 208V-3Ø, 480V-3Ø or 600V-3Ø voltage output with the simple flip of a switch.

Dual frequency and quad voltage make the Doosan Tier IVi generator lineup more versatile. No longer do rental houses need to purchase generators with dedicated voltages or frequencies. Now, the same Doosan generator can be rented for applications with 600-volt or 480-volt, 50 Hz or 60 Hz requirements.

A standard voltage selector switch on all models up to the G325 provides quick and easy configuration for the three most common voltages. The signature protection feature on Doosan generators prevents operators from switching voltage during operation.

Canada

Quad voltage is a feature designed with Doosan’s Canadian customers in mind. Quad voltage is currently available on mid-range mobile generators (G70, G85 and G125) and allows operators to choose 120/240V-1Ø, 208V-3Ø, 480V-3Ø or 600V-3Ø voltage output with the simple flip of a switch.

The G240, G290, G450 and G570 have a dedicated 600-volt (346/600V-3Ø) option available.

A new option for generators in Canada and other regions with extreme cold is the Doosan Tundra Package, a collection of several enhancements for engine starting and reliability, ensuring generators will run in temperatures as low as minus 40ºC/ºF. The Tundra Package includes a block heater that keeps diesel fuel warm and inhibits fuel condensation on cold metal — a feature that results in quicker starting time and less battery grind. An oil pan heater keeps the engine oil less viscous and improves circulation throughout the engine, while a heated breather hose prevents oil vapor from freezing in cold temperatures and blocking the breather.

The Tundra Package also includes a battery pad heater to ensure the battery remains warm enough to supply the cranking amps necessary to reliably start the Doosan generator. To ensure the battery does not lose charge in subzero conditions, a battery charger also is included. Both of these features are powered by the 120-volt AC shore power connections available on Doosan generators. The Tundra Package is available as a factory option on all new generators, or can easily be installed by a Doosan Portable Power dealer as an aftermarket purchase.

Mobile generators for Canada are equipped with Transport Canada-certified fuel tanks (capacities of 450L and greater), reinforced and treated to resist corrosion and leaks as specified by the Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) Act.

EMEA

The mobile generator line for the EMEA market offers 11 models with prime power outputs from 20 to 500 kVA. These generators, manufactured in Pilsen, Czech Republic, are equipped with advanced engines that ensure optimal performance and fuel economy with low emissions and share many design attributes with the 60 Hz portfolio.

New to the Doosan EMEA generator portfolio are the G150-IIIA and G200-IIIA. The generators produce 150 kVA and 200 kVA respectively and are equipped with Euro Stage IIIA compliant John Deere engines. The G150-IIIA and G200-IIIA are available with an optional 264 gal. (1,000 L) fuel tank and optional 60 Hz frequency.

Asia-Pacific

Doosan Portable Power has four new models joining the mobile generator line that was first introduced to the Asia-Pacific market in 2008. The newest generators for Asia-Pacific are manufactured in the new Doosan Portable Power facility near Shanghai, China.

The line of 13 models has prime power ratings from 25 through 625 kVA. The G90, G125, G200 and G315 are the newest Doosan generator models for the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region. They feature Stage 0 and Stage I turbocharged Cummins engines, Leroy-Somer alternators and Doosan controllers. Another feature is one of the most hardened generator enclosures in the APAC market. Uniquely designed air intakes ensure that dirt and debris do not enter the generators in extreme environments, and a sound suppressing design makes Doosan generators perfect for applications and events that require low noise levels, according to the manufacturer.
