GUCA Holds Coastal Georgia Industry Mixer in Savannah

The GUCA Coastal Georgia Industry Mixer was held on May 19, 2011, at Vic’s on the River in downtown Savannah.

This was an open invitation event for GUCA members, prospective members, municipalities and government officials. More than 40 members and guests attended this meeting.

GUCA members were joined by senators, representatives, county officials, city of Savannah commissioners and many other guests. Political officials were given a platform to speak to GUCA members and guests. City and county procurement officials also were on hand to answer questions and address issues of “Doing Business in Savannah/Chatham County.” Sen. Buddy Carter gave a recap of the 2011 Legislative Session.

GUCA members and guests also were addressed by GUCA President Mitch Stephens, John D. Stephens Inc. He welcomed everyone to the meeting and thanked Flint Equipment Company, JCB of Georgia, Lenox Utility Contractors LLC, John D. Stephens Inc. and STS LLC. for their sponsorships. Stephens also encouraged the members to stay active and participate in future GUCA functions.

Those in attendance also were updated by GUCA Executive Director Vikki McReynolds about upcoming events, safety classes, and industry and legislative issues. She highlighted the success of SB 54 which GUCA pushed regarding weights and permits with GA DOT and SB 122 regarding public/private partnership for water resources.

The importance of generating new membership was emphasized by promoting membership recruitment in the area to strengthen GUCA’s Coastal Georgia membership.
