The Georgia Utility Contractors Association (GUCA) East Georgia Industry Luncheon was held at a local favorite, Sconyers BBQ in Augusta, Ga., on Jan. 26. This was an open invitation event for GUCA members, prospective members, municipalities and government officials. More than 45 members and guests attended this meeting and took advantage of this great networking opportunity.

GUCA members and guests heard a presentation from fellow member Daniel Pharr. He talked about the prospective projects that are slated for construction or are awaiting appropriation of funds from the government.

“There are only two U.S. Army bases in the United States that are actually growing and seeing prolonged growth/investment,” said Pharr. “One of the two is thankfully Fort Gordon. “With the kickoff of the Cyber Command Center construction, the Augusta River Region is set to take part in a 10-year expansion in all things related to military and quality of life. The influx of employees and supporting infrastructure will help push forward the quality of life investments, further solidifying Augusta as a great community to live in. Three hotels, a civic center, liberal arts center, amateur baseball stadium, as well many other construction projects have recently been announced, and more are on the way. Right now is an exciting time for the Augusta area.”

GUCA members and guests also were addressed by Dickey Watson, Industrial Chemicals, GUCA membership committee chairman. He welcomed everyone to the meeting and thanked BITCO Insurance Co. and Ferguson Waterworks for their generous sponsorships. Watson also encouraged the members to stay active and participate in future GUCA functions and emphasized the importance of generating new membership in the east Georgia area. He promoted the 2016 to 2017 GUCA Membership Contest and emphasized how important it is building strong membership and relationships within the association.

Those in attendance also were updated by Vikki Consiglio, GUCA executive director, about upcoming events, safety classes and industry and legislative issues. Consiglio also highlighted the GUCA affinity programs, including the 401(K) MEP Plan and the BITCO Safety Dividend program.
