Westchester Tractor, Inc.

After 42 years of uninterrupted service, Rick Palmesi is retiring from Westchester Tractor. Palmesi's tenure began in 1978, when, fresh from automotive school, he interviewed with John Apple, founder and president of Westchester Tractor. Westchester, which had only been in operation for one year, was at that time a Ford tractor and construction equipment dealership.

The last out may have been made at Bridgeport Bluefish's baseball park in Bridgeport, Conn., but there will be extra innings played for part of this venue, which is being partly demolished and reinvented as an amphitheater. The new Harbor Yard Amphitheater, which will serve as southwestern Connecticut's premier concert venue, is one of the largest construction projects currently in the area.

Hickory Homes & Properties Inc. (HH&P) was founded by Enrico Galli over 30 years ago (1986) in Westchester County, N.Y., as a real estate investment company. His son, Gilbert Galli turned it into a small-scale property maintenance company. Today, the company is operated by Enrico's grandchildren, Michael and Christopher Galli.

Westchester Tractor was founded by John Apple in 1976 at its original location in Goldens Bridge, N.Y., as a Ford Tractor dealer. In the early years, the company concentrated on Ford tractor loader backhoe and industrial tractor sales. During the 1980s the company expanded and offered other makes of construction and grounds maintenance equipment which includes Kobelco, Hitachi, New Holland, Kubota, Brush Bandit and Avant.

With an assist from its Kobelco excavators, the Tremson Corporation, a land clearing contractor based in Brewster, N.Y., is clearing the way for the new Legoland amusement park, which is scheduled to open in Goshen, N.Y., in 2020. This theme park will be the third Legoland park in North America and is ideally positioned 60 miles northwest of New York City and within two hours of 23 million potential visitors.

Westchester Tractor Inc. held an open house in Brewster, N.Y., on July 15 in celebration of 40 years in business. Customers flocked to the headquarters of Westchester Tractor and were greeted by employees along with many manufacturer representatives, including those from Kobelco, Kubota, New Holland, Bandit, Vibroscreen, Woods Equipment Company and Terrain King.

The town of Ossining, located in Westchester County, N.Y., has a population of more than 37,000 and contains two villages — the village of Ossining and the village of Briarcliff Manor. The town encompasses approximately 16 sq. mi. The town’s equipment fleet includes five dump trucks, one Elgin sweeper, one Vac-All, one New Holland tractor loader backhoe, and several mason trucks.

As a young man, Joe D’Auria learned some fundamentals about landscaping and operating some equipment doing various jobs working for George Kopac, who owned the local driving range, Route 9W Golf. In 1984, D’Auria, who had been working for a local car dealership, was ready to make a change.

Westchester Tractor is now an authorized sales, service and rental provider of Doosan equipment. The dealership, located at 60 International Blvd., Brewster, N.Y., is now offering the full line of Doosan construction equipment, including excavators and wheel loaders.

The New Holland Super Boom Road Show with its Skid Steer Challenge came to Westchester Tractor in Brewster, N.Y. on April 23, part of the company’s year-long 35th anniversary celebration. Westchester Tractor is one of 30 heavy equipment dealerships (sales, services, parts and rentals) nationwide to host the Super Boom Road Show in 2011.
