Jim Hasty, vice president of sales, Iowa Mold Tooling Co. Inc. (IMT), headquartered in Garner, Iowa, announced the expansion of Nichols Fleet Equipment Inc.’s territory in northern Alabama. Hasty stated, “Nichols Fleet Equipment has been with us since 1991 and we look forward to this expansion as an opportunity to further develop and grow our business together.”

Based in Chattanooga, Tenn., Nichols Fleet Equipment Inc. is a factory- authorized dealer for sales and service for IMT mechanics trucks, truck mounted cranes and air compressors that was already serving Tennessee, portions of southern Kentucky, Georgia and the western Carolinas. With the addition of the new territory, Nichols now covers virtually every county north of Montgomery in the state of Alabama.

Nichols’s founder and president, David Nichols, has had a lengthy relationship with the IMT product line. His operation started small and has continuously grown.

“In 1991, as a result of my service background, IMT gave me a one-year trial period to serve a small portion of Tennessee. Now almost 20 years later, the company employs 17 people and serves four states,” said Nichols.

Experience in the industry is what drives the success of Nichols Fleet Equipment.

“I’ve been in this industry since 1981 and our staff consists of several people who have been with us for more than 15 years. We have individuals that actually came to work for us from IMT who are highly skilled and have extensive knowledge of the current IMT equipment, as well as the older equipment. This is important in our business because one of the attributes that IMT equipment has is longevity. We consistently see units that are 20 years old that we are very familiar with and know how to troubleshoot and work with,” added Nichols.

In addition to IMT product longevity and name recognition in the industry being important to his business,

“IMT products are unsurpassed in quality, product support is extremely good and they’ve built a very well established distribution network in the U.S., which is big when you have customers with service needs who have locations across the country,” Nichols noted.

“Our focus has always been on customer service and product support. Machines that are down always take priority over new installations in our shop. In order to cover a territory as broad as what we have, we obviously put a focus and priority on down time and how quickly we can get our customers up and running,” said Nichols.

With the expansion of territory, Nichols has been traveling extensively in the Alabama market to ensure that customers’ needs are being met and that the right people are in the right place to support their new marketplace in Alabama.
