Tue January 16, 2007 - National Edition
Construction Equipment Guide

The LeeBoy 8816 asphalt paver has expanded the options available to both commercial and highway heavy asphalt paving contractors with this 25,000-lb. (11,000 kg), 130-hp (96.9 kW), maneuverable asphalt paver designed for road and large commercial applications.

The LeeBoy 8816 features a heavy-duty, vibrating and heated Legend screed system. The new Legend electric screed heat system is available as an option on the 8816, giving paving contractors a choice of propane or electricity as the heating fuel source.

The Legend electric screed system, powered by an on-board generator, offers the safety benefit of no flame, fuel or fumes in the screed heating process, along with consistent temperature control of the heating elements across the width of the screed plate and screed extensions.

The 130-hp Cummins turbo diesel engine and two-speed hydrostatic drive allow the LeeBoy 8816 to pave base material or asphalt topcoat up to 6-in. (15.24 cm) depths at infinitely variable widths from 8 to 15.5 ft. (2.4 to 4.72 m).

Its 10-ton (9 t) receiving hopper has hydraulically folding radius wings and feeds the paver with dual 18-in. (45.72 cm) feeding conveyors. The screed extends hydraulically from 8 to 15.5 ft. and is fed by 14-in. (35.56 cm) variable speed augers with independent sonic auger and conveyor controls. Under-auger cut-off doors make for clean starts and stops, which eliminate most of the hand end work at the end of a pull. Adjustable screed extensions feature a 10 percent slope.

Operator features include complete electric over hydraulic control (eliminating cables) of all paving functions from right or left sides of the paver. Steering wheel is standard with an option for proportional electronic steering and slide-out operator seats enhance operator visibility of the work area.
