Gary Brouillette, general manager of the landfill division of Samsula Waste Inc., was shopping around for a dependable material handler to replace the company’s existing machine. After looking over the competition, he chose to purchase a Sennebogen 825 M D Series machine with its Cummins engine, 47 ft. (14.3 m) of reach and enhanced safety features.
“In the end, we decided to go with the reliability and dependability of the purpose-built Sennebogen material handler, which is tailor made for our waste, recycling and landfill needs,” said Brouillette. “In the nine months we’ve had our new 825 M, we’ve had absolutely no problems with it — it just runs and runs. All we’ve done so far is routine maintenance. That’s the kind of uptime and productivity we expect and require of our equipment.”
Samsula Landfill is one of the four divisions of the parent company Samsula Waste Inc., which was founded in 1980 by company President Yancey McDonald. Spread out over approximately 67 acres, the landfill division employs 30 people and serves the counties of Volusia, Flagler and Brevard in mid-eastern Florida. The experienced team at Samsula Landfill provides service to residential, commercial and industrial customers, including construction and waste companies and general contractors.
Sennebogen 825 M Does Double-Duty at Samsula
Fitted with a Gensco five-tine grapple with a magnet, the Sennebogen 825 M D Series is being used primarily to separate construction and demolition debris at the landfill site. It also is used to feed a horizontal wood grinder. Samsula went with a rubber-tired machine to enable operators to get around the yard quickly and efficiently.
The cab on the 825 D Series is loaded with new features designed to increase operator efficiency, comfort and productivity, including a sliding door combined with the adjacent catwalk, improved access to maintenance areas, and upgraded climate control systems, according to the company.
Moving up to the bigger machine with its Tier III emissions-compliant 204 hp (152 kW) Cummins engine has increased the site’s productivity, according to Brouillette.
“Since we took possession of it , more often than not we’ve been running the Sennebogen 825 M ten hours a day, six days a week and we haven’t had to do one thing to it,” said Brouillette. “The Cummins engine in the 825 M makes a world of difference. And, of course, the 47 feet of reach on the machine is a real bonus.”
The D Series – Sennebogen’s Fourth Generation of Material Handlers
Sennebogen was among the first manufacturers to offer the scrap and recycling industries a line of purpose-built material handling equipment in place of excavators retrofitted for unique lifting applications. Today, Sennebogen offers a wide range of material handlers with operating weights ranging from 48,000 to 350,000 lbs. (21,772 to 158,757 kg) in rubber tired, crawler and pedestal versions. The company’s D-Series models are Sennebogen’s fourth generation of material handling machines to America.
On the D Series machines, the safety features are centered around the cab.
