The National Drilling Association (NDA) board of directors has appointed Larry Gibel the new president of NDA at the recent board and committee meetings in Atlanta.

P. Don Ulses, who had served as president since early 2004, announced his retirement from Boart Longyear and the drilling industry as well as his resignation from the position of NDA president. In response to this vacancy, the executive committee nominated Gibel to fill the remainder of the term expiring in 2007.

Gibel accepted and, by unanimous vote of the board, was appointed the new president of NDA effective immediately.

Gibel, owner of Ohio TestBor Inc. in Hinckley, OH, has spent his entire career in the geotechnical and environmental drilling industry. He began drilling part-time in 1969, worked as a drilling department manager for several years and then started his own company, Ohio TestBor, in 1986.

Gibel said he is honored to serve as NDA president and is looking forward to working with members to enhance NDA benefits and extend the association’s influence.

“NDA will continue to promote the geotechnical, environmental and mineral exploration drilling industry as a whole, but we are also committed to expanding the resources needed to help each individual member company operate safely and profitably,” Gibel said.

At the board and committee meetings, Ulses was recognized and thanked for his contribution to these successes during his service as president while Gibel voiced his intention to keep the momentum going.

In other NDA news, a vacancy on the NDA board of directors prompted the appointment of Peggy McGee to the board.

McGee, president of Ranger Consulting Inc. in Rome, GA, will fill out the remainder of the term which expires in 2007.

McGee brings substantial industry knowledge and experience to the table including more than 22 years in geotechnical and environmental drilling and consulting. She served 11 years with the Georgia Department of Transportation performing geotechnical foundation investigations and environmental site assessments and supervising drill crews.

She also was chief operating officer of a private environmental consulting firm for eight years.
