The Nursery Growers of Lake County Ohio Inc. (NGLCO) held its 45th Annual Summer Field Days Aug. 14 at Stanton Park in Madison, Ohio.

The event, held in affiliation with OSU Extension, The Ohio Nursery and Landscape Association and the USDA, is designed to provide information on the latest techniques and innovations in a format that encourages the exchange of ideas among its members. As well as a great opportunity to catch up with friends and make new acquaintances, another big draw at the event was an opportunity to meet with representatives from local equipment, product and service providers.

Activities included equipment demonstrations, nursery bus tours and workshops.

Rain did little to dampen the spirits of attendees or exhibitors as they met and mingled under the protective canopies in the exhibit area and food tent.

2012 marks the 75th anniversary for The Nursery Growers of Lake County Ohio, which was formed in 1927 as an educational forum for Lake County, Ohio, nurseries.

Currently, more than 100 licensed nurseries operate in Lake County with a nursery stock that covers more than 5,000 acres. Member nurseries, with a combined annual sales volume exceeding $90 million and varying in size from less than one acre to more than 900 acres, employ more than 2,700 full and part-time workers. While the nursery industry has continued to grow in Lake County during the past 75 years, Membership in the association also has grown to encompass an eight-county territory.
