Regional Site Solutions Inc. of High Point, N.C., displays the pride and colors of Clemson University on its purple and orange painted dump and service trucks, as well as a Power Curber 5700-Super-B.

Jill Gilstrap Clodfelter, president and owner of Regional Site Solutions Inc., choose the unique colors for her trucks not just to stand out from the rest of the crowd but to show her allegiance to her alma mater — Clemson University located in South Carolina.

After graduation, Clodfelter, a civil engineering major, worked for a Carolina company specializing in site preparation. Six years ago she started her own business —Regional Site Solutions Inc.

“I decided to go into business for myself so that I could control my schedule and spend more time with my children,” Clodfelter said.

Expertise in Site Development

According to Clodfelter, Regional Site Solutions Inc. provides site preparation for building including utility, electrical, paving and concrete work, grading, water and sewer, excavation and more. The company currently staffs 35 full time employees, providing services primarily in the Carolinas and Virginia; however, all curb and gutter work is done within an hour and half of High Point.

“Most of our work involves retro work — repairing problems at job sites so that construction can take place,” Clodfelter explained.

Regional Site Solutions is currently working on the maintenance of the dams and retention ponds in High Point and is responsible for removing material from the ponds and spillways, cleaning the valves and spill pipes, etc. Work began in January and should be done by December.

“The job is progressing on schedule,” Clodfelter said. “However it is challenging because every time it rains the ponds and spillways need to be pumped out before maintenance can continue.”

No Shortage of Work

“Our biggest challenge, as a company, has been controlling our growth and keeping up with the demands of our customers,” Clodfelter said. “Fortunately, because I worked for years as an engineer in the area and had numerous contacts in the field when I opened my own business, I haven’t had any trouble acquiring contracts for Regional Site Solutions Inc.”

When asked if there were any challenges to being a women in a male-dominated business Clodfelter responded, “In my experience if you do a good job the business will come, regardless of who you are.”
