Mac Wallace (L) and James R. Boyd, both of 3 B Farms, Washington, N.C., are interested in this Lorain 35-ton (31.8 t) crane. Boyd is looking to move a few things on his 10,000-acre farm where he grows corn, wheat, soybeans and cotton. Fred Adams of Fred Adams Paving Company, Morrisville, N.C., is in the market for a smaller excavator. He tested out several machines and felt that this Volvo EC35 would suit his needs. Ivan Mast (L) of Mast Enterprises, South Boston, Va., and Jason Payne of Atkinson Truck Sales, Chatham, Va., are looking at a variety of machines, including crawler loaders. Ritchie Bros. offers both live and online bidding. This 2008 Caterpillar 321D excavator was sold for $75,000 to an onsite bidder.

More than 1,350 bidders participated online and in person April 9 at Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers’ multi-million dollar unreserved public equipment auction in Raleigh-Durham, N.C.

Bidders came from 39 countries, including 47 U.S. states. Approximately 78 percent of the equipment was sold to out-of-state buyers, from as far away as Nigeria, Indonesia, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates. Online bidders purchased more than 58 percent of the equipment sold (by dollar value).

In total, more than 830 equipment items were sold in the auction, including crawler tractors, excavators, wheel loaders, truck tractors and more.
