LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) The state plans to spend $150 million next year to fix dozens of roads including sections of highway in Beauregard and Vernon parishes.

The American Press reported the repair program, known as the Quality Surface Program, involves roadwork that isn’t subject to federal aid. The state Department of Transportation and Development said many of the routes haven’t been repaired in decades because of a lack of funding.

The local roads are Louisiana Highway 389 and Louisiana Highway 399 in Beauregard Parish and Louisiana Highway 469 and three segments of Louisiana Highway 399 in Vernon Parish.

Officials said the projects were selected based on traffic volume and assessment of roadway conditions.

Money for the repair work will come from the State Highway Improvement Fund, which is expected to generate about $425 million over three years. The repair initiative will encompass about 1,100 miles of rural roads in Louisiana.

State transportation officials plan to accept bids for the projects beginning in January 2013.
