SANY has opened the world’s largest and most advanced excavator factory near Shanghai, China, that can produce an excavator every five minutes, according to the manufacturer.

The Lingang Industrial Park has 10.7 million sq. ft. of total space, with 5.9 million sq. ft. of manufacturing space. The facility cost $818.5 million to build. The factory uses a computerized production-management system for maximum efficiency, managing the entire process, from raw steel plate to structural welding, to components and final assembly. Excavator structures and components are transported automatically from underground tunnels to optimize production. The factory will primarily produce excavators in the 20 to 30-ton (18 to 27 t) size range.

The facility is unique for its 43,000 sq. ft. of gardens, reflection pools, bamboo stands and marble patios that flank the assembly lines inside the facility. The gardens include palm trees, flowers, grass and fountains.

In addition to excavators produced in Lingang for sale in China, SANY produces base excavator kits that are shipped to SANY America’s assembly facility in Peachtree City, Ga. The kits are assembled there, adding the options and features preferred by North American customers.

SANY is a global leader in the manufacture and sale of hoisting equipment (crawler, truck, rough-terrain and all-terrain cranes), concrete machines (concrete pumps, placing booms, mixer trucks and batching plants), road machinery (motorgraders, rollers, pavers and asphalt batching plants), port equipment (container reach stackers, empty-container handlers, heavy forklifts and gantry cranes), excavators, mining equipment (rigid haul trucks, road headers, mining vehicles, longwall systems and continuous miners), pile-driving machinery and wind turbines.

SANY America Inc. sells, distributes and supports crawler cranes from 110 to 550 tons (99 to 499 t), rough-terrain cranes from 40 to 85 tons (36 to 77 t), hydraulic excavators from 7.5 to 33.5 tons, port reach stackers with maximum lift of 99,200 lbs.
