Sen. Mitch Seabaugh was presented with the 2005 Georgia Utility Contractors Association (GUCA) Golden Shovel Legislative Service Award during the 2005 GUCA Annual Conference at the Ponte Vedra Inn & Club in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, June 16 to 19.

In the 2005 Legislative Session, Seabaugh co-sponsored and sponsored the following Senate Bills: SB3, SB124, SB169, SB174, SB187 and SB274. Most importantly SB187 was put into a study committee by Seabaugh. He then appointed industry professionals to come up with recommendations to Georgia’s Facility Protection Act. This bill helped make changes that affect excavators, utility owners and locators.

“The changes made were a positive step for everyone in the damage prevention area,” said Ronny Jones, of Ronny D. Jones Enterprises Inc., one of the excavators on the study committee.

A Republican, Seabaugh was elected to the Georgia State Senate in 2002 and is a member of the Agriculture, Insurance and Labor, Public Safety and Special Judiciary committees.

Seabaugh also has represented his district as an executive committee member of the Coweta County Republican Party for the past six years.
