The Roadtec SB-2500e shuttle buggy MTV (material transfer vehicle) can store and transfer hot-mixed asphalt material from a truck to a paver for continuous paving.

Designed to “shuttle” between the asphalt haul truck and paver, the machine features an anti-segregation triple-pitch auger that remixes materials just before they are delivered to the asphalt paver at rates of up to 600 tons (544 t) per hour. The 25-ton (22.6 t) surge capacity of the SB-2500e/ex is sufficient capacity to allow trucks to fully unload material and immediately return to the asphalt plant, according to the manufacturer..

The triple-pitch auger flighting design used in the Roadtec shuttle buggy is designed to provide uniform remixing across the width of the entire hopper. The triple-pitch auger located in the bottom of the hopper remixes the contents of the storage hopper. The mixing action is designed to equalize temperatures and evenly mixes large and small particles. A slat conveyor runs from the bottom of the hopper and feeds the discharge conveyor.

The machine's front hopper features a steep slope and vibrating bottom plate in the hopper, which is designed to prevent material build-up. Heavy-duty, swiveling support casters under the hopper are said to assure smooth movement. Operators can adjust the hopper position from either of two separate control boxes. They also can adjust the position of the push roller for different truck designs. An optional windrow pickup head is available.

The SB-2500e is powered by a 300 hp Tier IV, diesel Cummins QSL 9 engine. The shuttle buggy MTV rides on four 21-in. wide by 25-in. high flotation tires. The steering wheel controls the front wheels of the all-wheel drive machines. The hydrostatic drive mechanism offers two speed ranges (working and travel) with continuously variable speed.
