The Stadium Authority has approved a resolution supporting the construction of a new Aloha Stadium.

The decision comes after a number of studies showed exponential cost increases for deferred maintenance toward health and safety repairs in order to extend the stadium's current operation.

The Authority states that the new facility could be constructed for a comparable price, as well as provide more opportunities. It's expected to seat between 30,000 to 40,000.

The Stadium Authority is hoping that a new stadium, along with the proposed rail and transit oriented development, will create opportunities for new types of events.

"We are excited for the future but recognize this is just one step in a very long process," said Scott Chan, stadium manager. "The current stadium is safe to operate and we will continue to host events and welcome guests knowing that it may take a number of years until a new facility is constructed."
