U.S. Shoring Finding Success With Hyundai Equipment

U. S. Shoring & Equipment Co. has gone through a major transformation in the two years it has been in the Florida market.

The company entered into the area as a distributor of trench safety equipment including slide rail systems, trench shoring boxes and road plates. In 2005, while maintaining the underground focus, U.S. Shoring expanded its operation with the addition of the Hyundai line of construction equipment, which include front-end wheel loaders, hydraulic excavators, mini excavators and skid steer loaders.

U. S. Shoring is a division of Road Machinery & Supplies Co. (RMS) in Savage, MN. RMS has been in the construction equipment business for 80 years and this gives credence to the U. S. Shoring claim it has the “Strength to Perform.”

RMS is a family-owned business with Mike Sill II, president and CEO, being the third generation in his family to run the company.

According to General Manager Carson Erickson, the past two years have seen tremendous growth in the relatively new company.

“Our revenues in 2005 tripled over our 2004 numbers and we are looking for great things in 2006. U.S. Shoring is continuing to hire people who are experienced in the industry and we have over 130 Hyundai units either in inventory or on order. And this is in addition to over $4 million of trench safety equipment we have on hand.”

Erickson said he’s proud to be associated with Hyundai.

“They are a $100 billion a year corporation that had the highest percentage of growth in the North American construction equipment sales in 2005. They have given us programs that will allow us to quickly become one of their top dealers in the United States,” he said

Part of the program includes ensuring U.S. Shoring employees know the features and benefits of the machines as well as the servicing aspects.

According to Erickson, “We have sent our service techs to Hyundai’s training school in Chicago — they have one of the best in the industry — and Hyundai’s regional service tech works closely with us to make sure we meet our customer’s needs. We have a lot of good people who have worked extremely hard at overcoming the challenges of the past year.

“In addition, Hyundai brings the best warranty program in the industry to the customer. They provide a two-year bumper-to-bumper warranty and three years on the power train.”

Erickson also talked of U.S. Shoring’s focus on the customers’ success.

“Meeting our customers’ needs and supporting them so they can make a profit is what we are all about,” he said. “In addition to new equipment sales, rentals and service support, we also have in-house equipment financing and an extensive inventory of used equipment to draw upon.

“This all goes back to the RMS philosophy of supporting our customers. Our customers know they can rely on us for who we are and what we have to offer. We have the resources and the industry experience to help them make money and this is the philosophy we bring to the Florida market.”

U.S. Shoring has offices in Jacksonville, where Lance Connor is the branch manager; Orlando, where Steve Fowler is the branch manager; Tampa, where Richard Hearn is the branch manager; and Pompano Beach, where Ernie Perez is the branch manager. From these offices the company covers southeast, central and north Florida.
