Construction Equipment Guide

Vermeer Manufacturing Company designed the HG200 compact horizontal grinder for material reduction in confined urban areas.

The HG200 processes brush and sizes the end product in one pass — producing mulch that can be used for general ground cover, landscape mulch, compost or animal bedding.

The HG200, which shares the same platform as the Vermeer BC1000XL brush chipper, is powered by an 85 hp (63 kW) turbocharged Cummins diesel engine.

The machine has a gross weight of 5,500 lbs. (2,495 kg), allowing it to be towed with a 1 ton (909 kg) truck and easily transported through residential yards and commercial sites.

A hammermill drum has the ability to process light contaminants such as nails, small gravel/stone aggregates, bolts, glass fragments and plastics that are commonly found in light construction and demolition materials, pallets or wood chips.

A lid located directly above the hammermill drum and screens hinges over the center to allow the operator full access to these components for daily maintenance and replacement of cutters and screens.

The unit comes standard with the SmartFeed control system. The SmartFeed computer controller automatically stops or reverses the feed rollers and infeed conveyor according to engine rpm drop.

Another feature of the HG200 is the clutchless PTO.

This system combines the throttle and clutch engagement mechanisms to prevent the drum from being engaged at a high rpm.

The 17-in. (43 cm) wide, 4-ft. (1.2 m) long in-feed conveyor belt has an optional 2 ft. (.61 m) extension to handle more material loaded by hand or mechanically.

After materials have been processed, a side-discharge conveyor belt allows operators to load materials into trash bins or 1-ton (.9 t) trucks or create windrows.

To help eliminate metal contaminants from the end product, the discharge conveyor features an optional magnetic tail pulley, which attracts metal objects and transfers them onto the nail chute located under the conveyor.
