Volvo Construction Equipment Acquires Mathews Machinery

Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) has acquired Mathews Machinery Inc. its dealer for the state of California, in a move that combines the strengths of both companies to increase the effectiveness of the Volvo construction equipment distribution system in the state, according to the companies.

The California Company will continue to operate under the Mathews name from its present sales and services branches located in Bakersfield, Corona, Fresno, Lakeside, Livermore and Sacramento and it will continue to provide sales and service for Volvo Construction Equipment products. Company headquarters will remain in Lakeside.

All corporate and customer support functions will continue uninterrupted.

Mathews was appointed the authorized dealer for Volvo CE in California in 2002.

Dennis R. Slagle, president and chief executive officer of Volvo Construction Equipment North America, Asheville, announced the acquisition and said, “The Mathews organization has successfully revitalized the Volvo Construction Equipment brand in California and built a culture and infrastructure of valued employees over the past six years. That, in turn, has been the foundation for a strong tradition of superb service and care for its customers. We will provide the support and resources required by Mathew’s management team to ensure the highest levels of customer satisfaction and stable growth.”

A new president will be named shortly to replace Tom Mathews, the founder of Mathews Machinery. He is retiring after 48 years of service in the construction industry. Dave and Mike Mathews will remain part of the executive management team ensuring continuity and a smooth transition.
