Volvo Rents has acquired Camrus Development, Inc., a single-location construction equipment rental company based in Bryan, Texas, and previously owned by Volvo Rents franchisee Martin Walker.

Volvo Rents currently has 11 rental centers open and operating throughout Texas and continues to anchor itself as a leader in a nationwide construction recovery recently forecasted by economists at IHS Global Insight. According to IHS stats, Texas will be a leader in the recovery with the second most construction dollars spent from 2011-2016 and third largest gain in yearly spending dollars.

“For the first time in quite some time, we are seeing increases in the construction sector, particularly in Texas,” said Mike Crouch, Vice President of Business Development for Volvo Rents, highlighting the fact that Texas ranked first in the nation in the development and construction of office, industrial and retail space in 2011. “We believe this is the most solid evidence yet of a strengthening recovery and we look forward to continuing to grow our business and distribute our comprehensive line of essential equipment.”

According to Crouch, the growing number of contractors shifting away from owning construction equipment to renting it is further evidence of the opportunity available in Texas and nationwide. He sees a “secular shift” from contractors renting about a third of their equipment to leasing 50 percent or more.

“We believe the trend will continue to accelerate,” Crouch added. “Buying construction equipment requires tremendous capital outlay. A company might buy a piece of equipment for $50,000, but only need it for three months out of the year. We bring the equipment to them, pick it up and perform the maintenance so there’s no downtime. It’s also tax-deductible.”

In addition to Volvo Rents’ expanding line of Volvo compact equipment – such as backhoe and skid steer loaders, compact wheel loaders, compact excavators and compaction equipment – the rental centers carry a comprehensive line of essential equipment and tools for the construction, commercial, industrial and homeowner markets. The focus is on daily, weekly and monthly rentals.

While the Bryan store hours will remain Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., 24-hour service is available every day of the week.
