When space is in short supply, the new ECR58D and ECR88D short swing radius compact excavators from Volvo Construction Equipment are in their element. Even with a compact size, the D-Series excavators boast digging performance, breakout and tearout forces, and lifting capabilities that rival their larger counterparts. These machines also feature engines that offer superior performance and reduced fuel consumption, according to the manufacturer.

Manueverability and productivity also are optimized on these compact machines. Both models feature automatic two-speed travel for enhanced traction, and hydraulic travel pedals for easy and accurate track control.

Super Superstructures

Featuring a narrow body design and centrally positioned boom, the superstructure on the ECR58D and ECR88D is so compact that its rear swings within its track shoe, allowing operators to work extremely close to other objects without risk of collision. The short front/rear radius also is well-suited to working within a single highway lane, minimizing disruption to the flow of traffic.

Due to their reinforced, three-piece, high-tensile steel X-shaped frame undercarriage, they are durable and reliable — capable of withstanding the rigors of demanding work environments. The models feature impressive bucket and dipper digging forces — and class-leading digging depth — allowing them to power through tough working conditions. Superior hydraulics and pump flow also help provide faster cycle times and enhanced digging performance, according to the manufacturer.

Quickly positioning the ECR58D and ECR88D is simple, with slew and offset movements controlled simultaneously by a joystick that’s precise and easy to use.

For greater flexibility, the excavators are available with a mono-boom (or an optional two-piece boom on the ECR88D), several arm configurations and blade. The D-Series also offers a variety of optional quick couplers and a new and extensive range of genuine Volvo attachments.

Powerful Efficiency

New engines deliver lower emissions along with superior performance and fuel efficiency, for higher productivity levels and lower operating costs. The ECR58D is fitted with a four-cylinder engine that produces 50 hp (36.5 kW), and the ECR88D comes with a four-cylinder, 58 hp (43 kW) output engine.

The ECR58D and ECR88D (Tier IVf / Stage IIIB) feature an exhaust-after-treatment system (EATS) for lower emissions and seamless operation — even during regeneration.

An auto-idling system reduces engine speed when the controls are inactive for a period of time that can be pre-set by the operator (between three and 20 seconds), reducing running costs and fuel consumption.

Small But Spacious

Though small, these D-Series ECR excavators provide an enhanced operating experience, with a comfortable environment that encourages higher productivity. Comfort is enhanced by an adjustable seat, superior vibration and noise insulation, ergonomic armrests, intuitively placed controls and ample leg room.

The excavators also were designed to help ensure operator safety, with an ROPS-certified cab, and all-around visibility offered by large expanses of flat glass.

Uptime UP

For extended uptime, the D-Series compact excavators are easy to service and maintain. All service and cleaning points are readily accessible at ground level and grouped together under a wide-opening lockable hood. Boom and arm greasing points also are easily accessible, and in general applications greasing need only be carried out every 10 to 50 hours.

Further maximizing machine uptime is the optional Volvo CareTrack remote telematics system, which provides machine intelligence from fuel consumption monitoring to servicing information, helping owners optimize machine performance.
