Cardinals Pick Firm to Build Stadium

ST. LOUIS (AP) - An Indianapolis firm that has built eight of the last 11 major league ballparks will build the St. Louis Cardinals (news)’ new stadium.

Hunt Construction Group Inc. was selected Wednesday over three other contractors, said John Loyd, hired by the Cardinals to oversee the new stadium’s construction.

Hunt Construction Group is currently building the Philadelphia Phillies (news)’ new stadium, due to open in 2004.

In addition to Cleveland’s Jacobs Field, Hunt’s list of recent projects includes the Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati, Comerica Park in Detroit and Pac Bell Park in San Francisco.

The Cardinals want to have their new stadium ready for the 2006 season.
