Cormidi writes a new chapter with the multi-function KB-X Performance platforms using technology never used before in this market, which will be on prominent display at ConExpo 2014 in Las Vegas.

For years Cormidi has been developing, manufacturing and selling mini-dumpers, aerial platforms and tracked loaders. According to the company, these have attracted worldwide attention for their performance, robustness, reliability and attractive design that has put them head and shoulders above the competition.

To continue its policy of providing maximum customer satisfaction - based on prompt and efficient after sales service, quality and reliability of products - Cormidi now offers yet more innovative machines.

The new KB-X Performance platforms, with working heights ranging from 13 to 22 m, differ from the competition in many respects.

First, they are aerial platforms, cranes and material handling unit in one package. Removing the personnel basket, the KB-X is transformed into a crane with lifting capacities of up to 800 kg.

Without the lifting accessory, a hydraulic power take-off allows the connection of a wide variety of hydraulically powered attachments, including demolition breakers, a glazing panel handler or winch. It would, for example, make the ideal car lifter.

The KBs are also innovative in their compact layout and overall design that breaks with the past.

Thanks to the particular geometry of the arm it is possible to achieve, for a given basket load, jibs of almost double capacity compared to the competition, according to the company.

What’s more, the presence of three points of articulation allows the KB to move almost like a human arm. It can do jobs that are impossible for competitor machines, such as going over the top of a house to the other side, or achieve a maximum horizontal reach of 11.3 m and then rise vertically in a straight line up a wall to a height of 14 m. That is almost double that of traditional machines that can reach the maximum reach only from mid-height, and not working from ground level.

The articulation also allows users to work below ground level, such as under bridges or places unreachable from standard machines.

The KB-X also offers significant performance as a crane. The 19 KB, for example, can lift 500 kg to a height of about 16 m, or 450 kg at a height of 12 m high and 5 m outreach. At 9 m outreach at ground level lifting capacity is 400 kg. Thus, moving a stack of bricks becomes a simple operation.

All models are equipped with a special system with coded key that allows the selection of operating modes: Air, Air Cranes and Negative (under bridge).

The electronic system is newly developed. In crane configuration, for example, the HSB (High Speed Boom) function is very useful. When selected by the operator, it doubles the speed of boom movements.

The KB is then controlled by a remote transmitter that incorporates the MIS system. This maintains contact with the machine continuously. The operating parameters of the machine are shown on the bright LCD transmitter screen (including the load being lifted, the degrees being towed, and any faults).

Furthermore, the system signals via LED lights the machine functions that are possible at any given time, having analysed the passive safety of the machine.

The EMS system automatically adjusts engine power, according to the task being undertaken, optimising speed for smooth and safe movements. At the end of the task, the system returns the engine to idling to save fuel, and you can also choose and customise the power threshold according to required use.

The SSF (Computed Stabilisation and Destabilisation) system allows the user to stabilise and retract the machine in an automatic way, with precision down to half a degree. By pressing a button, the machine starts the automatic stabilisation or retraction process quickly and independently.

It then continues with the IPSone (position and management service) that allows the KB to talk simultaneously with the Cormidi office management and its owner. You can determine the location of the machine, its state of use, any alarms onboard and correct or add new software.

Lastly, there is the MSS (Management Safety System) with a dual control system, which oversees all the vital functions and security. Furthermore, a very powerful black box stores anomalies and misuse of the machine, and is therefore ideal for rental companies who need to know the conditions under which the machine is being used.

The new KBs have a hydraulic system with five pumps, which allows for two travel speeds, selectable via the transmitter. The speed first is used for dangerous movements requiring accuracy, such as during loading onto trucks. The machine in this configuration can climb slopes in the order of 60%.

The second speed is used for ground transfers, with a maximum speed of about 3.3 km/hr. Most striking is the angle of attack that allows you to go climb up to 28°, which is approximately 2 m in height of 4 m in length. Turret rotation is 365 °.

With the new KBs divided into two groups 13-16 and 19-22, Cormidi replaces, in one fell swoop, the traditional work platforms and scissor, mini cranes, telehandlers and compact machines: creating the ultimate multi-purpose machines for use profitably in construction, marine, forest, garden, and many other areas.
