Hitachi Construction Equipment Loaders America (HCMA) has announced Highway Equipment, formerly Harter Equipment, as a Hitachi wheel loader distributor. Since 1933, Highway Equipment has maintained a legacy of success in the construction industry stretching over 85 years, and the Reynolds family-owned operation continues today under president Thomas Reynolds.

Highway Equipment Company is expanding its reach into New Jersey by acquiring a new location in Millstone, N.J. Harter Equipment, which was founded by Seth Harter in 1967 and led by Sue Harter since 1999, has joined the Highway Equipment family. As Highway Equipment Company, the former Harter will continue to provide customers the same service, support and experience for all of their equipment needs.

Harter Equipment held its 50th Anniversary Open House June 3 in Millstone, N.J. The equipment dealer, founded by the late Seth Harter in 1967, is today led by his daughter, Sue Harter, and she was pleased with the great turnout for the event. After an early morning heavy rain that threatened to put a damper on the celebration, the weather cleared and many customers, friends and their families, as well as vendors, responded by coming out for an enjoyable Saturday afternoon.

Good moves … it takes many of these to be successful in business — and even more to be successful for a half-century. When Seth Harter decided in 1967 to stake his career on Deere & Company, which had operated construction equipment dealerships for only 10 years at the time, that was the first of many good moves.

The Utility & Transportation Contractors Association of New Jersey (UTCA) held its 51st annual convention and trade show Sept. 29 through Oct. 2 at the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City, N.J. On Friday, Sept. 30, equipment dealers and construction services companies met with Garden State contractors (and contractors from neighboring states) during the trade show in the Borgata.

To assist with Hurricane Sandy cleanup and rebuilding of the New Jersey shore, Hyundai Construction Equipment Americas Inc. and its New Jersey equipment dealer, Harter Equipment Inc, have donated the use of a new Hyundai R210LC-9 excavator to the town of Mantoloking, N.J.

Kobelco Construction Machinery America July 6 announced the winner of the “Your Competitive Edge” sweepstakes. Doug Nilsen, owner of Nilsen Topsoil, Millstone Township, N.J., will receive a one-year lease on a new Kobelco 55SRx compact excavator valued at $26,000, two tickets to the U2 360 Degree Tour concert in Chicago on July 5, 2011, and $2,000 spending cash.

Harter Equipment Inc., Millstone Township, N.J., recently announced Dick Clark, a 25-year veteran of the construction equipment industry, has joined its sales team. Clark began his career 25 years ago when he joined G&H Services, Newton, N.J., as a parts counter salesman.

G&H Service Inc. will be closing its retail business on Oct. 31. The dealership, located at 121B Water St., on Route 206 North in Newton, N.J., will be selling its excess equipment inventory during a Ritchie Bros. auction Oct. 19 in North East, Md. Customers from Wall Township, N.J., and surrounding areas took advantage of the beautiful weather on June 18 to attend Clayton Block’s annual demo day. Held at Clayton’s Belmar location, customers were given the opportunity to try out some of the many tools Clayton sells, including those by manufacturers DeWalt, Makita, Multiquip and Hitachi Power Tools.

April 15 may have seen a lot of people reluctantly mailing off checks to the federal, state or local governments, but for Dan Hye, equipment technician, Harter Equipment Inc., Millstone Township, N.J., it was a date to receive a check that will help him further his career in the industry.
