Electric Company Starts $148M Energy Storage Project
The Hawaiian Electric Co. recently announced that it will build a new energy storage capacity in Oahu to help boost the local power grid's resilience and reliability, Renewables Now reported. The project, totaling close to $148 million, will consist of a 20-MW/80-MWh lithium-ion battery storage system at the 20-MW West Loch solar park, located at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickman, where construction began in April 2018....

State Expects to Spend $15 Billion on Roadway Erosion Solution
As sea levels rise in Hawaii, the beaches—and roads—are taking a hit. In 2016, the waters on Oahu's Windward Coast ripped off two big pieces of the Kamehameha Highway. Crews performed repairs, and while Hawaii's transportation officials said the repairs would help to deter future erosion, they said the fix wasn't permanent, the Honolulu Civil Beat reported....
