Companies don't buy uber expensive pieces of heavy equipment because they are loyal to a brand or even to a dealer. While they may appreciate the heritage of a machine or be chummy with a dealership's CEO, they primarily want machines that dependably and efficiently work.

Hoffman Equipment marked one century in the lifting equipment industry at this year's ConExpo. The Piscataway, New Jersey-based family-run company celebrated the date expanding its fleet with new Manitowoc and Grove cranes purchased at the show. The new acquisitions include a Grove GRT8120 rough-terrain and a Manitowoc MLC150-1 crawler crane (both launched at ConExpo), a Grove GRT880, an RT770 and a Manitowoc MLC100-1.

The Utility & Transportation Contractors Association of New Jersey (UTCA) held its 54th annual convention and trade show Sept. 26 through 28 in Atlantic City, N.J. After having held the convention for the past several years at the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa, the show returned to the Tropicana Casino and Resort where it had been held for many years.

Hoffman Equipment Co. 's Crane Service Manager, Gary Hopf, has announced his plan to retire on Sept. 20, capping a career spanning more than 30 years in the industry. Hopf started working with cranes as a mechanic in the late 80's at the Equipco Co.

Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) continues to take the guesswork out of buying used machines with the opening of a new Volvo Certified Used Center in New Jersey. The company has partnered with Hoffman Equipment to establish a Volvo Certified Used Center in Deptford, N.J., that will serve the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions.

Herman's Trucking and Recycling is a thriving, family owned business. Founded by Herman Steljes, the company currently is managed by Nick Rader, Herman's grandson, who works alongside his mother, Marilyn, whom he credits for being the brains behind the organization.

Yonkers Contracting Company (Yonkers) is using its recently acquired Grove GRT880 on an infrastructure project along Route 17 in Harriman, N.Y. The project, which includes building a new bridge, a new interchange and inserting new drainage, has a quick-paced schedule and is expected to be completed later this year.

Doosan Portable Power has named Hoffman Equipment as an authorized distributor. The company will supply Doosan Portable Power air compressors, generators, light towers and light compaction equipment throughout New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. Hoffman Equipment has been serving the construction, transportation and equipment industries for 100 years and has a strong presence in the Northeast markets.

NPK has announced the newest member of its construction equipment dealer network. Hoffman Equipment will provide NPK sales and service in New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania. Hoffman is a family business that opened in New Jersey in 1920 as a transportation company delivering roofing materials.

When Hoffman Equipment's acquisition of Penn-Jersey Machinery became official on Nov. 19, 2018, it was the culmination of the usual back-and-forth business negotiations — maybe it'll happen … maybe it won't. That comes with the territory of major transactions.

Hoffman Equipment (Hoffman) is expanding its retail territory in the Northeast United States. The Piscataway, N.J.-based dealer is purchasing Penn-Jersey Machinery's assets and will start selling Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) products for the first time.
