Responding directly to the needs of its customers, JCB has introduced a completely new range of high-boom lift and place telescopic handlers. The JCB Loadall range boasts fast cycle times, maximizing productivity across the range. The new machines were designed by JCB specifically to meet the needs of North American contractors and rental companies.
The high-boom Loadalls feature a larger cab, side-mounted Tier III-compliant engines, a plus pattern servo hydraulic control lever and rear-axle stabilization on all but the smallest models.
The Loadall 506-36, which replaces the 506C, provides a lift capacity of 6,000 lbs. (2,721 kg) and a working height of 36 ft. (11 m). A second machine, the 507-42, replaces the 506CHL and provides a 7,000-lb. (3,175 kg) maximum lift capacity and a working height of 42 ft. (12.8 m).
The third machine, the 509-42, also has a 42-ft. lift height, but can handle loads up to 9,000 lbs. (4,082 kg). It replaces the previous 508C model in the JCB line-up.
Topping the range is a brand new machine with a 10,000-lb. (4,536 kg) lift capacity. With a maximum lift height of 56 ft. (17 m), the 510-56 is a heavyweight telescopic machine that can handle virtually any lifting task on the construction job site, according to the manufacturer.
The side-mounted engine on these new machines is already a common feature on JCB’s low-boom telescopic handlers. It is mounted at 90 degrees to the frame, offering easy access for servicing and maintenance. An additional benefit is its high degree of parts commonality with other JCB Loadalls, thus allowing dealers and operators of multiple-machine fleets to maintain fewer parts in inventory.
JCB Dieselmax Engines
The 506-36 is powered by an 85-hp (63 kW) JCB Dieselmax engine. The 507-42 and 509-42 models use JCB’s 100-hp (74.5 kW) Dieselmax. The larger 510-56 comes with a more powerful 114-hp (85 kW) version of the EPA and CARB-compliant engine.
All four engines deliver that power through standard JCB 4x4 Power Shift transmissions and JCB axles. The axles come with torque-proportioning differentials as a standard feature and the outboard planetary hubs help to reduce repair and maintenance costs.
Operators can choose from several tire options: air-filled, eco ballast, puncture sealant and foam filled — all of which enable customers to tailor the tires to their individual job site requirements. All lift capacities are set without tire ballast. Service brakes are self-adjusting oil-immersed discs that require no maintenance. Heavy-duty axle shafts offer long service life and low operating costs.
Growing Market Segment
With the new 510-56 Loadall, JCB is entering an important, growing sector of the market. This 10,000-lb. capacity telehandler will be equipped with axle-mounted stabilizers as standard for chassis levelling with the stabilizer legs down.
All four machines benefit from a lower cab mounting and a larger, ergonomically designed cab interior. The cab’s easy-to-operate plus pattern servo lever, with the proportional and flowshare capability, provides precise control, with fast cycle times. The single servo replaces the multiple mechanical levers found in previous models.
Positioning the boom high on the machine allows for good operator visibility when working or travelling. A hydraulic cylinder mounted underneath the outer boom extends the intermediate section, with chains for second and third stages, where fitted.
The “top hat” boom design uses a Waxoyl lubricant. The lube is dry to the touch and will not attract sand or dirt that can harm the machine. Wear pads are easy to remove and replace when necessary.
The boom on each model machine comes with a quick hitch that enables operators to use a wide variety of attachments, further enhancing the versatility of these lift and place machines, according to the manufacturer.
Three Cab Levels
All models are fitted with a new cab design that incorporates a large glass area improving upward and all around visibility, particularly to the rear three quarters. The cab is available in three specification levels, from the base canopy to the top-of-the-range Ultra cab. Canopy-to-cab conversion kits also are available for operators who elect to change to a cab at a later date.
The split-door design allows the upper glass section of the cab to be locked open for improved ventilation. Large grab handles provide for easy operator access. Foot pedals suspended above a flat floor make it easy to keep the cab clean on the job site. The large brake pedal enables operators to brake using the right or left foot.
The easy-to-read instrument layout offers intuitive controls, with load charts available for standard carriage, tilt and truss boom operation. A wide range of attachments will be available for the various models from utility buckets and pallet forks to truss booms and block tines.
The new machines were designed for use by framers, roofers, steel workers, masons and general contractors. They will be manufactured at JCB’s modern production facility in Savannah.
HiViz Models
JCB has introduced its first HiViz Loadalls, in the 535-140. The HiViz Loadalls have a shorter overhang at the rear of the machine and a considerably lower boom pivot point. Combined with tighter steering angles available from new axles, the two HiViz machines benefit from improved visibility, a smaller turning radius and enhanced maneuverability on site.
The use of materials on the new machines also has resulted in a 13 percent reduction in boom section. The 535-140 HiViz is among the first JCB telescopic handlers to preview a revised dashboard control layout that will be used on all of JCB’s larger machines. Separate analog dials are grouped into a single display, incorporating additional functionality and providing maintenance information such as time to next service.
The 535-140 can handle an 8,000-lb. (3,628 kg) load with an operating height of 45 ft. (13.7 m) respectively. They are powered by the 100-hp Dieselmax engine.
