JCB is updating its JS145 tracked excavator, adding the Tier III JCB Dieselmax engine to another model in the JS excavator range. The revised model also takes on recent styling changes and an updated cab structure seen on the larger crawler models.

The new machine features:

• The JCB Dieselmax 444 engine

• Advanced hydraulic technology to increase efficiency

• All black counterweight with the latest JCB branding

• Revised cabs with increased glazing

• Greater in-cab storage space

Fuel Saving JCB Engines

The JCB Dieselmax engine provides a 47 percent larger capacity than the previous machine, delivering 5.4 percent more power and a 12.7 percent increase to engine torque. This increased output allows faster machine response from idle with higher torque back-up, for demanding applications. The increased torque output also allows the engine to operate at lower rpm, increasing efficiency and lowering noise levels.

The JS145 will now be powered at 100 hp (74 kW) and feature 320 lb. ft. of torque. The machine benefits from a larger cooling package and a 9 percent larger cooling fan, allowing slower rotation and lower noise output.

Robust Upperstructure and Revised Cab Design

The JCB JS145 has been restyled for a more rugged appearance, with an all-black counterweight with yellow chevrons at the corners. Strengthened side access doors complete the look.

The new cab can be ordered with an integral ROPS structure. All JCB JS excavators will be available with roll over protection structure approval, in compliance with ISO 12117-2:2008 as an option. ROPS certification for models below 26 ton (24 t) has been achieved through internal strengthening of the cabin and machine structure. Externally the ROPS cab is identical, while internally the cab will be marked with a data plate identifying compliance.

Bolt-on FOPS protection also is available. The cab benefits from larger storage areas and the front wiper is now completely isolated when the front screen is opened. Improved sealing reduces noise and dust ingress into the operator’s compartment. All hoses and harnesses passing through the cab floor now have rubber grommets with a bolted retaining ring to provide improved sealing, improving heating and ventilation performance and reducing noise in the cab, according to the manufacturer.
