Ronny D. Jones Enterprises Inc. is a third-generation utility contractor whose recent purchase of a JCB 718 articulated dump truck was a first.
The Newnan, GA, contractor serving the Atlanta metro and north Georgia area has become the owner of the first JCB 718 sold in the United States.
Specializing in site development and utilities construction services from initial site planning, preparation and grading through completion and follow-up, Jones needed a reliable vehicle to serve a range of clients including municipalities and counties.
When the need arose, Jones turned to Stafford Tractor Company, based in Lawrenceville, GA. After meeting with the dealership’s sales staff, Jones was sold on the 718’s advantages.
The JCB 718 is a 12.6-yd. (11.5 m) capacity articulated truck with a 6-cylinder Cummins “B” series turbocharged diesel rated at 167 net hp (124 kW).
The truck features a fully automatic ZF “Smoothshift” transmission with modulated shifting, standard Super Max Trac limited slip differentials with outboard planetaries and brakes for serviceability, 84-degree dump angle, dual-pump hydraulic system for multifunction operation with steering priority, and a ROPS/FOPS high-visibility cab with electronic monitoring system and dual entry/exit doors.
According to Jones, “The 12.6-yard truck is doing a very good job for us. The machine is small enough to get into the tight areas yet big enough to move the dirt we need to move. We are hauling shot rock and dirt in confined areas on job sites, and if needed, the truck is actually road legal.”
Jones said other aspects of the machine that made it a good choice include low ground pressure, tight turning radius, and tight right-of-way access.
