This Caterpillar excavator may be going to Texas with Cullen Mancuso, who is looking over a lot of equipment while trying to find something for the right price. This Komatsu D41 may end up in the forestry business if Norwood Blanchard of Wallace, N.C., can get it for the right price. Traveling all the way from Mount Pleasant, Iowa, Karl Messer and his wife, Patti, were monitoring the prices on dozers. This Liebherr 754 late model crawler generated a lot of bidding interest. Ron Raimbeault and his wife, Ida, of Job Site Equipment in Rhode Island, have been big fans of the New England edition of Construction Equipment Guide since John LaCamera founded it in the 1950s. There was elbow-room only on day three when the dozer auctioning got under way. Comparing their thoughts on some of the dozers being sold (L-R) are Mickey Gibbs, Gibbs & Sons Machinery, Gadsden, Ala.; Joel Bradfield, Sand Hills Trading, Marietta, Ga.; and Dick Tabb, Tabb Equipment Sales, Roswell, Ga. Don and Georgia Rettman of Don Rettman Construction, Litchfield, Minn., are considering adding this Komatsu PC220LC excavator with a hydraulic hammer to their bid list. Finding a quiet place between a couple of Caterpillar 325DL excavators, (L-R, clockwise) are Jim Oxford, Oxford Crane; Henry Dixon and Jerry Barrass, Jerry White Construction; and Shorty Travelstead, Marion Excavating, all from Marion, Ill. Onsite and global bidding were very strong when the excavators went on the auction block at the Yoder & Frey sale. These folks from the Snow Belt were happy to be in sunny Florida. Keeping a close eye on prices for several machines of interest is Jake Moore (L), Boondocks Auto & Equipment, Durant, Okla., and Grant Stepp, Dozers.com, Americus, Ga. Lucky’s Trailer Sales in South Royalton, Vt., has been displaying Talbert trailers at the Yoder & Frey sale for 20 years. Hundreds of bidders gather for the sale of excavators; one of the highlights of the annual Yoder & Frey Kissimmee auction. It takes a clear voice, sharp eye, and quick reflexes to work the ring during the annual Florida auctions. Jim Davis from Prospect, Conn., purchases an excavator to add to his large fleet of utility construction equipment. His company maintains power lines for several of New England’s electric utility companies. Every size, shape and color imaginable of excavator buckets were available at this year’s auction. With a Caterpillar 330BL at the Yoder & Frey sale are Sam Sales (L) of Sales Auction Company, Windsor Locks, Conn., and Jon Stephenson. Adalyn Merritt, president and CEO of Merritt Landscaping and Lawn Care Service in Jacksonville, Fla., is looking to take home this Hitachi compact excavator, if only her father would give her allowance to her. Taking a break from the bidding action are  James Manning (L) and Jeff Carroll of Northline Sand & Gravel, Taylor, Mich. Landon (L) and Walt Boring of Boring Equipment were in town watching over some equipment they had in the sale. Walt was happy with the results so far, claiming he was getting more from the equipment than he was asking for in his yard. A last minute undercarriage inspection is performed as this Caterpillar dozer is run through the Yoder & Frey auction. This bidder takes advantage of any extra elevation he can get to track the bidding during the crawler tractor portion of the Yoder & Frey sale. Peter Clark, president of Yoder & Frey, tracks the bids on day three. As has been increasingly the case at the Florida sales, there was a large presence of South American bidders. Many of Yoder & Frey’s ringmen are bilingual to assist in the bidding process. his Komatsu WA320 received a thorough inspection by Chris McCorkle of McCorkle Sales, Claxton, Ga.  He claims the fruitcakes made famous by his town are good for wheel chocks, too.

Yoder & Frey held its annual Florida auctions Feb. 6 to Feb. 13.

The seven-day sale featured a wide array of equipment. The first day saw motorgraders, asphalt rollers and pavers, concrete equipment, sweepers and vacuum trucks go on the block. Days two through four featured rubber-tired loaders, skid steers and attachments, generators, hydraulic excavators, off-highway water trucks, crawler loaders and more. Day five featured rough-terrain cranes, truck cranes, crawler cranes, pile driving equipment, bucket trucks and more. And days six and seven featured farm and forestry equipment and dump trucks and trailers.
