Monitoring efforts are under way following completion of this season's dredging operations at Indiana Harbor and Canal (IHC) in East Chicago, Ind. It is one of the most polluted waterways in the Great Lakes area. Crews will treat water from the confined disposal facility (CDF) until freeze up, with the 2020 season scheduled for next spring.

The $90-million four-laning/improvement project was in the works before Toyota ever committed to building its plant in Mississippi.

Toyota has awarded its sixth local construction contract for its new Highlander vehicle assembly plant in Blue Springs, Miss. Harrell Contracting Group, based in Ridgeland, Miss., has formed its third partnership with Homewood, Ill.-based Graycor Construction Company Inc.

The first of many construction projects involving the $1.3 billion Toyota automotive plant near Tupelo has been completed weeks early. Hill Brothers Construction Co. of Faulkner, Miss., recently finished the first contract, clearing the core site in Blue Springs.

ANN ARBOR, MI (AP) Toyota Motor Corp. said it has signed a deal to buy 690 acres from the state for a research and development center that is expected to add 400 new jobs. Toyota Technical Center USA Inc., Toyota’s North American research and development arm, said the automaker wants to expand its engineering and research capabilities.

Toyota Plans Expansion in West Virginia Toyota Motor Corp. plans a $50 million expansion of its Putnam County engine and transmission plant to accommodate the Lexus RX 300 and a new vehicle being produced in a joint venture with General Motors. The expansion is expected to increase plant employment to 1,000 by 2003 and Toyota’s total investment in the Buffalo plant to $950 million.
