Savannah Technical College has invited several JCB Apprentices to join their team at the 2016 SkillsUSA State Leadership & Skills Conference on March 17-19 in Atlanta, Georgia. The event will feature teams from across Georgia demonstrating and competing in different technical skill categories, including technology, drafting, metal work and woodwork.

SkillsUSA is a national, nonprofit organization that is a partnership of students, teachers and industry leaders working together to ensure America continues to develop a skilled workforce. SkillsUSA's mission is to empower its members to become world class workers, leaders and responsible American citizens by utilizing the core values of integrity, responsibility, citizenship, service and respect. The organization provides educational programs, events and competitions that support career and technical education in the nation's classrooms.

“JCB's Apprenticeship program has become an immensely successful program for us internally and we're proud that members of that program are being honored with invitations to participate in the SkillsUSA Conference,” said Tim Witter, Vice President of Manufacturing Operations for JCB North America. “Participation in the Leadership and Skills conference will allow our Apprentices to demonstrate what they've learned so far in our program and learn new skills or techniques from their peers in the industry.”

JCB's Apprenticeship program was created in August 2012 to address the issue of an ever-shrinking skilled labor pool in Georgia. Apprentices must have a minimum of a high school degree and be interested in pursuing an education and career in the areas of Manufacturing Engineering, Machine Tool Programming or Facilities Support. Apprenticeship Program members are full time students at Savannah Technical College and are also employed full time at JCB, participating in hands-on training rotations and receiving all JCB employment benefits. At the successful completion of the program, enrollees are placed in an applicable permanent position within the company.

JCB Apprentices participating in the conference are: Ramon Gonzalez, Charles Carter, Jordan Turner, Jake White, Hunter Jackson and Kyle Koskela.
