Murphy Tractor & Equipment Company Inc. in North Platte, Neb., enjoyed a visit from local Cub Scouts of Pack 285 on Sept. 25. Salesman John Webster was their host and treated them to an exciting afternoon.

The scouts were first entertained by a John Deere DVD, titled “All about John Deere for Kids,” which explained Deere’s history and shows a variety of machines in action. Cookies and juice were served to add to the viewing pleasure.

Next, they were given a demonstration of the new 310J backhoe. The highlight of the trip was when each of them were given the opportunity to operate the machine themselves and do a little digging. An important part of the experience was a discussion of safety when operating equipment around a job site.

“The boys really enjoyed it. It was a great afternoon,” stated Jill Tucker, who brought the boys out for their adventure.

“We received a very nice thank you letter from them,” said John Webster. “We all had a ball. They said they will be John Deere customers for life.”
