HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) Washington County investigators say a “brazing” torch was used to steal about $15,000 worth of metal material from a construction site.

Deputies reported the theft Aug. 13. Skanska Construction is building part of the Portland Clinic Medical Center.

Investigators say the torch was used to gain entry to several secure storage areas at the site, where several construction companies are working. Items stolen include spools of copper wire, copper fittings and stainless steel drain pans.

Investigators believe the theft most likely involved at least two people and a vehicle due to the weight of the items stolen.

It is common for thieves to steal metal and then take it to scrap yards to sell by the pound.
