A new housing development called Hopewell Grant is taking shape in Hopewell, NJ.

Before the first settlement can be made on any of the new townhouses Chase-Thomas Contractors, a site utility contractor located in Jamison, PA, will need to finish its portion of the project by installing underground sewer lines on and to the development site.

The $5.5-million utility line project, which began this past July, is split into four phases:

• Phase One (on site) involved the installation of 8,522 ft. (2,598 m) of on-site lines (already done).

• Phase One (off site) involves the installation of 2,200 ft. (671 m) of off site lines.

• Phase Two involves another section of townhouses for which the company will be installing sewer and storm water lines.

The two remaining phases are approximately five to six weeks away from completion.

For this project, Chase-Thomas recently purchased a Volvo 460B hydraulic excavator and has rented a Volvo LD70 wheel loader and a Volvo EC140B hydraulic excavator from L. B. Smith, located in Lyonsville, NJ.

Chase-Thomas is a relatively new customer of L.B. Smith, but based on what Pat Chase, co-owner of the company, said, it appears that he’ll be dealing with L.B. Smith for years to come.

“They have a lot to offer and their salesmen are real helpful and they get us what we need in a timely fashion. It’s sort of like one-stop shopping,” Chase said. “And Scott Helverson, our sales rep, is very personable. He really cares about our needs; he’s very accommodating and very resourceful … If he doesn’t have something in stock, he goes out of his way to get us whatever we need. He just has a knack for making things happen.”
