The Southeast Pennsylvania Chapter of Associated Builders & Contractors (ABC) announced at its Ninth Annual Awards Banquet on Nov. 17 that Adams-Bickel Associates Inc., Collegeville, PA, has been selected as 1999 General Contractor of the Year, and Tri-M Electrical Construction Corporation, Kennett Square, PA, has been selected as 1999 Specialty Contractor of the Year.

Adams-Bickel Associates Inc. is a general contracting firm that specializes in the industrial, commercial, institutional, educational, religious and health care markets. H. James Bickel Sr. is the president and owner.

Tri-M Electrical Construction Corporation is part of a network of six affiliated companies based in Kennett Square. James T. Horn is the president. This year marks the fourth time Tri-M has won this award, along with 1993, 1996 and 1998.

All contractor-members of the association were eligible, with the finalists selected through a balloting process. After the ballots were tabulated, there were a total of six finalists in the Specialty Contractor of the Year category and five in the General Contractor of the Year category. Each finalist was then sent an in-depth questionnaire to complete, which required them to submit information concerning their craft training and management, educational programs, safety programs and participation in ABC activities. The general contractors also were asked to submit three, detailed evaluation forms from owners, and specialty contractors were asked to submit the same number of evaluation forms from general contractors. Adams-Bickel Associates Inc. and Tri-M Electrical Construction Corp. scored the highest number of points in their categories.

“These two firms certainly represent the finest qualities one could hope for in a construction company. Both are committed to delivering the highest quality product possible to their customer, and dedicated to recognizing the significant role their employees play in their success. And, both companies generously share their resources with their respective communities,” said Geoffrey N. Zeh, executive vice president of the Southeast Pennsylvania chapter of the ABC.

ABC is a national trade association representing approximately 21,000 merit contractors and allied service and supplier firms.
