Robert A. Briant Jr., executive director of the Utility and Transportation Contractors Association of New Jersey (UTCA), was recently appointed by Gov. Dick Codey to serve as a member of the New Jersey Transportation Trust Fund Authority.

The Transportation Trust Fund Authority finances the state’s annual $1.2-billion road, bridge and transit construction program.

The new Transportation Trust Fund appointee is recognized as the most knowledgeable construction industry representative about the affairs of the Fund. Four years ago, Briant worked closely with the state Legislature as it provided new revenue to the Transportation Trust Fund in order to finance construction through June 30, 2006.

Gov. Codey and legislative leaders are currently considering various revenue sources to fund transportation construction beyond the 2006 deadline. Briant is leading the industry efforts in these directions.
